Clover’s Fine Art Gallery presents Culture & Heritage, an exhibition of contemporary artwork which reflects and expresses different aspects of African heritage and culture throughout the diaspora. The exhibition will open on March 8, 2016, and runs through April 24, 2016, aims to stimulate and facilitate a dialogue on African heritage through art.
Participating artists and notable works of the exhibition include:
“The Water Carrier” - Tamara Natalie Madden’s beautiful embodiment of the elegance, grace and resilience of the ancient skill of carrying water.
“The Last link” – Donovan Nelson’s rendition of a slave thrown overboard, seemingly toppling after another slave to whom he is chained during the tortuous middle passage.
“Forms of faces” –Ibou Ndoye’s books of art illustrating African masks.
“Sweet Songs” - Taj Tenfold’s pen and ink digital mixed media interprets Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”.
“They can’t kill us” - Ben Ibebe’s depiction of the outcry in the struggle against black oppression.
“Eclipse” - Kine Aw’s dramatic canvas is a depiction of moon divination and enlightenment.
“Ancestral Meanings” - Sophia Domeville’s abstract painting hides a message left by ancestors to a young man to rediscover his African roots.
Lehna Huie’s figurative works are inspired by the essence of the artist’s Jamaican homeland and the histories of the African Diaspora.
Dianne Smith’s Master Juba [William Henry Lane] was born a free Black Man. He introduced the Juba dance, also known as tap dance, to the world.
Figurative sculptures by Tanda Francis use mended broken forms to reflect loss of connection to the Motherland and the potential for repair.
