This event has ended.

In February 2016, Karen Kilimnik will present her eleventh exhibition at 303 Gallery, marking her first solo presentation in New York since 2011. In new paintings and collages, Kilimnik creates richly enigmatic narratives, inscribing her images with emotional signifiers that obliquely reference histories of representation and myth. An intuitive sense of the potential of reference suffuses her work, with unexpectedly evocative interventions into art-historical scenarios simultaneously fantastical and mundane. Whether drawing an image of an imaginary island amphitheater out of focus in a deliberately hazy mist or inserting animals back into stock natural landscapes from which they have been purposefully erased, Kilimnik’s sense of wonderment and ability to tease the sublime into unexpectedly mellifluous shapes remain the most joyfully contagious tenets of her practice.
