Arts Brookfield brings the acclaimed interactive music installation The Swings: An exercise in Musical Collaboration by Daily tous les jours to the Hudson River waterfront in Lower Manhattan. Daily tous les jours projects re-enchant everyday life and stimulate playful encounters, conversations, and ultimately, ignite in people a sense of what is possible. A giant collective musical instrument that brings people of all ages and backgrounds together, each swing represents one of four instruments (piano, harp, guitar, vibraphone) and triggers sound when participants swing back and forth. As certain melodies emerge through cooperation between players, The Swings fosters a sense of community and ownership of public space. The original 21 Swings new media art installation has attracted millions to the Quartier des spectacles area in Montreal, where each swing is swung an average of 8,500 times daily. The Swings bring vibrancy to an empty space by encouraging people of all ages and backgrounds to gather and experiment.
