This event has ended.

Foxy Production presents the gallery’s second solo exhibition of sculpture by Stephen Lichty. It will also be the first solo exhibition in the gallery’s new Chinatown space. Lichty continues his interest in the poetics of objects with his dramatic use of scale, composition, and combination.

His work involves different types of traditional craft processes upon elemental materials, including wood, metal, lacquer, and biological remains. His placement of objects enlivens the space, producing an atmosphere rich with performative potential.

The exhibition comprises an over-sized, reflective lacquer bowl made using Japanese urushi techniques; a bronze bell, containing cremains, that is set into a wall alcove; a black walnut screen that includes a seat; and a large, taxidermied snake with two bronze rings.

Stephen Lichty (Kansas City, MO, 1983) lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Selected exhibitions include: Museum of Stones, The Noguchi Museum, Queens, NY; CAPITAL, San Francisco, CA (solo); Movement Piece with Neil Marcus, presented by Patrick Gomez 4 Sheriff, Neutra VDL Research House, Los Angeles, CA (all 2015); Foxy Production, New York, NY (solo) (2014); Culm, Night Gallery, Los Angeles, CA (2013); Jack Chiles, New York, NY (solo); Bcc:9, Oslo 10, Basel, Switzerland; and Harlan.
