MK Medlock’s first ever solo show, Emotional Rescue, debuts at The Gallery at Gowanus Print Lab.
A collection of MK’s angels, demons, loves, fears, highs and lows recorded over a time period of two years, using multiple mediums, with no common connection except one thing: MK, just a regular woman using creativity as way to understand and love herself more, alchemizing her dark night of the soul into light.
Art is a form of self-expression and in MK’s case it most certainly is true, as her journey is spilled out, feelings translated in abstract art, in any way she could get them out. Glitter, neon, crayons, tee shirt ink, magazine editorials, self-portraits are just a few of the mediums utilized to form this “emotional” collection for her debut solo show.
MK Medlock is a Brooklyn based artist specializing in art as a form of self-expression, using meditation to connect to her innermost creativity she gives life to her art strictly based on urge to express a mood, look or texture, utilizing multiple mediums such a printmaking, abstract painting and bright positive public art installations. Art is her second career in adult life, following her heart not only to inspire others with her ideas and expressions, but also to love and understand herself more. MK values her artistic nature as an expression of her inner truth and utilizes as many creative outlets as she can such as, art, photography and written stories of her own journey in this lifetime.
Part anarchist, part inspirational guru, and part unicorn, MK has wheat pasted the streets of NYC, Los Angeles, Dallas, and Chicago, had her print work purchased by NBC Universal for use in a television series and had her stories published by Sweet Lemon Magazine. MK was featured in Sold Mag sharing her story of learning the method of screen printing and most recently a featured artist on stylabl.com.
When she’s not kicking it in her studio in Gowanus, she enjoys falling in love with NYC, traveling to far away romantic places, sharing laughter and love with friends, and binge watching Netflix.
