Milk Gallery presents Michael Zagaris’ unseen rock archive, Total Excess.

Zagaris has shot some of the most influential musicians of the 1970s rock scene such as The Clash, Grateful Dead, Blondie, The Sex Pistols, Bob Dylan, Eric Clapton, Lou Reed, Patti Smith, and Led Zeppelin. With the encouragement Eric Clapton, Zagaris took his photography to the next level, becoming known in the industry for his unique perspective. This perspective garnered Zagaris steady work with Rolling Stone, Creem, Melody Maker, NME, and Oui. His work also went beyond music to capture some of the most vital counter culture figures of the 1970s, including Billy Bowers, Divine, Peter Berlin, and The Cockettes, among others.
