Jamaica Center for Arts and Learning (JCAL) presents its annual “Artists Co-Op III,” Exhibition
Once a membership based program,this exhibition showcases the work of Queens-based artists. Chosen through an open call by a panel of fellow artists, Artists Co-Op III includes the work of 20 emerging and established artists, displaying a diverse works from photography, painting, textile, mixed media, and sculpture.
The participating artists are: Shay Arick, Maria Belford, Wonchun Che, Marcy Chevali, Ann Cofta, Kristina Fetkovich, Catherine Fletcher, Cora Jane Glasser, Matt Greco, Norma Greenwood, Jennifer Ivey, Rod Ivey, Sarah Langsam, Kristine Marx, Shannon McBride, Alva Mooses & Troels Steenholdt Heiredal, Antonia A. Perez, Minshik Shin, Judy Yang. The exhibition is curated by Rejin Leys.
The artists selected for Artists Co-op III challenge preconceptions about what art is and how it is made. Whether by using non-traditional materials, subject matter drawn from socio-political issues, or developing new techniques not taught in art schools, the 20 featured artists challenge the viewer to expand their understanding of what art can be and how we as viewers can share their journey.
