Dan Attoe “Recent Landscapes”
Half Gallery
This event has ended.
Looking out his studio window in Washougal, Washington, one gets the sense that Dan Attoe’s subject matter is just beyond the next mountain range. Recent Landscapes captures much of the natural splendor that the Pacific Northwest has to offer, only with murmurs of prose sprinkled throughout. Normally we imagine text paintings — be it Ed Ruscha or Alex Israel — to announce their words in the pronounced foreground. Conversely, Attoe’s lines amount to something like a whisper. Although the forty year old painter has shown at MoMA/PS1 and with Peres Projects at Independent NY, Recent Landscapes marks his first solo exhibition in New York.
