The New York Studio School Alumni Association presents its 2016 Annual Alumni Exhibition.

Lesley Heller of Lesley Heller Workspace,Andy Arnot of Tibor de Nagy Gallery,Miles Manning of Elizabeth Harris Galleryand Larry Greenberg of Studio 10,were asked to select work from 157 NYSS alumni. 60 pieces were selected for the exhibition including work from Herne Pardee, Elisa Jensen, Judy Hoffman, Peter Neal, Stephan Hicks, Amanda Church, among others. There will also be a special contribution by distinguished alumnus Christopher Wool.

As part of the Annual Exhibition, the Mercedes Matter/ Ambassador Middendorf Purchase Award will be chosen by a panel of judges comprised of Phong Bui (The Brooklyn Rail),Hrag Vartanian (Hyperalleric), P a u l L a s t e r ( Ti m e O u t N e w Y o r k ) a n d P a d d y J o h n s o n ( Ar t F C i t y ).
“Elizabeth Harris Gallery is in the unique position in that we represent six artists that are alumni of the New York Studio School. This came to be through no conscious effort on our part and we were only made aware of this fact fairly recently. Hence, when asked to participate on the selection committee, we were interested to see what other NYSS Alum’s are doing.” Miles Manning, Elizabeth Harris Gallery
“I’m thrilled to be involved in this year’s Alumni show, one of my artists, Elisabeth Condon received the Mercedes Matter Prize in last years exhibition.” Lesley Heller, Lesley Heller Workspace

“I was honored that Michael Tcheyan asked me to be a juror for this year’s exhibition. Michael and I have been friends for a couple of years and I have followed the Studio School for many years. I wanted to select a range of artworks that represent the diversity of practices that the Studio School offers. I was particularly taken with Patrick Neal’s Blue Crate for its simplicity of subject matter and complexity of technique and style.” Andy Arnot, Tibor de Nagy

“The works I chose for the show were influenced by my own experience as a student in the late 60’s and early 70’s at the studio school. Drawing was and continues to be a very important practice at the school and I tried to tie that ongoing engagement with the section I curated.” Larry Greenberg,Studio 10
