With her latest show, Ellen Bradshaw captures New York City in oils from her rooftops, balconies, and windows high above.

Beginning with the stunning panorama from her own balcony on the 25th floor, Bradshaw paints lower Manhattan and her bridges through sunrise, fog, storm, and snow with lively brushwork and colors to capture the mood of weather and season. From the same balcony, Ellen paints views of the new Gehry Twisted Building, the Woolworth Building, Municipal Building, and courtyard views!

Bradshaw’s studio roof in the West Village affords views reminiscent of John Sloan’s rooftop paintings, a strong influence on Bradshaw’s work.

Through a window view at HSS, (where her husband Joe underwent knee replacement surgery) Ellen paints Roosevelt Island on a frigid winter’s day, ice floes passing by on the East River….a waiting room in a doctor’s office reveals an unexpected view of the Freedom Tower looking up Ann St….a lawyer’s office high above Herald Square and Macy’s becomes a lively painting of Summer in the City….and Bradshaw climbs on top of forbidden benches at a rooftop bar to capture the views of the Empire State Building, water towers, and streets below on a moody gray blue day.

Bradshaw’s work was influenced by the realism of the Ashcan painters, as well as the sense of color and atmosphere explored by the Impressionists. She has shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and is the recipient of several awards. Ellen is President of Pleiades Gallery since 2000.
