Onishi Project presents a pop-up group show of Japanese photographers. In addition to being cutting-edge Japanese artists, the four featured photographers in this show are bound together by the fact that their photography careers all began after the year 2000. Since then, they have exhibited internationally in Italy, France, and Japan, succeeded in mastering this medium to merge what is visible to the human eye with what is visible to the mind’s eye.

Yoshiko Ehara (1943 – ) is showing “LOVE,” photographs that illustrate the invisible thread that connects all human beings. The images are sensual and soft, rich in color and visual texture, and full of mystery. Ehara Yoshiko’s work speaks to all kinds of love – from familial to friendly – aiming to inspire everyone to smile.

Sumio Koizumi (1934 – ) is exhibiting “COOL JAPAN,” a series of photographs inspired by Japanese culture, movies, music, magazines, animation, drama, and games. His colorful collages blend traditional Japanese iconography with eye-popping modernist design. Anticipating an international Japanese cultural explosion, Koizumi Sumio hopes to use his art to help catalyze this “boom.”

Motoo Saito (1944 – ) created “DREAM” after a chance discovery of Photoshop. Ever since, Saito Motoo has been focused on designing dreamlike works based on world heritage. Technicolor cityscapes of modern and ancient architectures challenge the viewer to reconsider the familiar through unfamiliar vision.

Michio Kumagai (1940 – ) is exhibiting work entitled “FREEDOM.” Kumagai Michio uses his art to untangle and make sense of all the complexities of modern society. Uniting natural landscapes and concrete architecture with surrealist distortions and fantastical colors combinations, the images blur the lines between imagination and reality, between desire and delusion.
