This event has ended.

On May 1, 2016, SuZen’s 50th anniversary retrospective exhibition, “Visions of Light & Spirit,” opens at Westbeth Gallery. Inspired by Buddha’s teachings, her newest multi-media installation, “Transmigration,” will premiere at the exhibition, along with an in-depth look of her photographs from 1966–2016. On Sundays, May 8 and May 15 at 3PM, SuZen will present two free artist talks.

SuZen is a fine-art photographer, multi-media artist, designer, and peace activist. Her photography has been exhibited in museums and galleries internationally and in numerous public and private collections. She has been the recipient of numerous grants, including the NYSCA funded 40’ x 25’ painted mural, “Flowing Light,” on 42nd Street in Times Square.

Always pushing the photographic medium into new dimensions, SuZen’s artwork has evolved from traditional black and white photography shown in galleries to public spaces with art performance/installations in the lobbies of the One World Trade Center; Port Authority Bus Terminal; and TWA Terminal at JFK Airport. In 1979, she organized “50 NYC Photographers” in the lobby of 26 Federal Plaza. In 1981, she founded Art for the People, and coordinated numerous public events, including her first performance/art installation, “Coming from Blindness Into Sight” (1982), in the lobby of One World Trade Center. Receiving a grant from the NEA, she co-created a 4 Woman Inter-Arts performance/installation, “Between Spaces,” in the TWA at JFK airport. SuZen has taught photography at International Center for Photography, Pratt Institute, Lehman College, Hunter College, Marymount Manhattan College, and Art Institute of New York City.
