Tanja Grunert presents “The Abuse of Power”, a solo exhibition by Judy Adler.
Judy Adler’s series, “The Abuse of Power”, poignantly expresses dualities of pain and pleasure; love and hate; victim and oppressor. Similar to the combines of Robert Rauschenberg, Judy’s work can be described as blurring the line between painting and sculpture. Judy constructs her pieces in an organic process through the use of unconventional materials including human and animal bones, plastic doll parts, fabric, glass, fur, feathers, and historical photos; and traditional art forms such as painting and collage. In each box she presents an original aesthetic that is genuine in its capacity to mediate trauma and explores the memory and emotions of those who have suffered in abusive systems. The works in this series confront the viewer through a powerful visual and cognitive process, which is both breathtaking and heartbreaking.
