Gottfried Jäger “Photographer of Photography”
Steven Kasher Gallery
This event has ended.
Our Gottfried Jäger retrospective features 45 works in a stunning installation designed by the artist. The topics Jäger (b. 1937) investigates are at the heart of the worldwide resurgence of contemporary “abstract” photographic practices. Starting in the 1960s, he probed the specificity of each photographic technique – from photogram to digital output. In the 60s he created a computer-based program to make digital photographs well before Photoshop. His investigations into systems of imaging and replication provide a sought-after link between the experiments of the Bauhaus and current conceptual photographers including James Welling, Walid Beshty, Liz Deschennes and Marco Breuer.
