This event has ended.

I saw the park: yellow-green, blue-green, red-green, violet-green,
sunny-green and shudder-green –
and listened to the blossoming orange flowers,
then I bound myself to the oval park wall and listened
to the gaunt-footed children,
who were touched with blue and streaked with grey
by the pink bows.
The tree column led lines exactly where they sat down
long around.
I pondered my colored portrait visions,
and it struck me
that only once had I spoken
to all of them.

Jay Miriam’s first solo show in New York, Catch the Heavenly Bodies, brings the viewer into a land of painting limbo. At first each figure shares its secret past only with Miriam, eventually breaching the imaginative and entering into the physical world. A Rorschach inquisition begins to take shape while lines stretch and recompose. Limbs grow from arms to legs; faces turn from holy to siren.

Miriam received her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Carnegie Mellon in 2012. Most recently Miriam has exhibited at Garis and Hahn in New York and Ornis A. Gallery in Amsterdam. She lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.
