“The Invisible Thread of the Marvelous”

This event has ended.

With the title referencing the prose of artist Alberto Giacometti, the works presented in The Invisible Thread of the Marvelous are an investigation of subtlety, sentimentality and the ephemeral. Through a process rooted in precision, repetition and an innovative approach to materials, the work seeks to encourage an intimate experience with beauty and nuance within the language of reductive formalism.

I return to the constructions that amuse me and which are alive in their surreality … I search, groping, to catch hold of the invisible white thread of the marvelous that vibrates in the void, from it escapes facts and dreams with the sound of a stream running over small, precious living pebbles …

- (Excerpt from “Charbon d’herbe” prose poem by Alberto Giacometti, 1932)

“I am interested in the potential for beauty, emotion and nuance within an aesthetically minimal context. Formal simplicity can evoke complexity and intimacy in experience. I want the work to look like nothing, and then everything,” Jessica McCambly.
