James Cohan presents the first major solo exhibition in New York by Scottish conceptual artist Katie Paterson. Paterson treats her varied subjects – geology, ecology, astronomy, the nature of time itself - with both a scientific eye and profound curiosity. Paterson collaborates with specialists in different fields of study to conduct rigorous research and experimentation, emphasizing that art and science are not mutually exclusive ways of understanding the enormity of our world. The exhibition will include major new works such as Totality, a large-scale mirror ball installation composed of nearly 10,000 images of solar eclipses recorded by man, and Timepieces, an installation of nine analogue clocks representing the time on every planet in our solar system.
