This event has ended.

The Anita Shapolsky Gallery presents “Abstract 50’s Masters (Where Were the Mistresses?)” featuring work by a wide range of artists from the last 50 years. Artists today try to utilize process and technology and inject their ego and ironic detachment into their work. The artists in this exhibition grew individual styles devoid of ego; leaving the purity of gesture, color and line in it’s place. Through their intuition, conviction and experience, these artists provide solid visual meditations on nature and life. Conversely, many of these artists changed their approach to their work. In doing so, they used their foundation of strengths as artists and pushed fine art into the future. Their searches and discoveries fed the Abstract movement and each other.
There are many surprises in this exciting exhibition from abstract, semi-abstract, gesture, geometric to minimal painting and sculpture.

Ernest Brigg’s - works are fiery, explosions of paint erupting on canvas as if a force all their own. He studied with Mark Rothko, Ad Reinhardt and Clifford Still.
