New York painter Art Guerra’s work is a dialogue between process and product. The unanticipated is the desired result and, in his abstract canvases, the unusual materials—glass beads, shredded rubber, exotic pigments—form a temporal agent for light. Indeed, light isn’t a painterly affect so much as the subject, and the medium itself, in Guerra’s work. It is also his collaborator, constantly changing and creating new perceptions for the audience with every viewing.
