This event has ended.

Tenri Cultural Institute presents a group Exhibition Pure Actions: Suhyun Kim, Simon Doucet, Jisoo Kim, Anese Eun Cho, and Jina Chung, Seungman Park.

This group exhibition is comprised of six international artists of various mediums and styles of artwork inspired by revealing their mind, emotion, and introspection. The artists explore their innermost thoughts in their unique characters of works that represent the artist’s vision as a personalized language. Each artist also imbued their art with the sensibility of automatism without certain artistic skills and they present an intrinsic attribute with pure mind on their artworks.

Suhyun Kim focuses on depicting an outspokenness of her unique, funny drawings on canvas that is at once visceral and spiritual and she seeks to expand the boundaries between art and consciousness. In her work, Kim promotes her exploratory unraveling of the world around her with images and words that beckon the viewer to appreciate the liberating power of a good laugh.

Simon Doucet has created sculptures with elaborate naturally formed stones that draws upon personal stories and defines the boundaries of his art philosophy. The strength, purity and plainness of his sculptures evoke emotional responses by diversifying purity of form. Doucet’s process is also revealed by the well-worked surface of the sculpture, leaving one with a sense of the naturalness and liveliness creation.

Jisoo Kim represents her work in collages that are made up of several photographic elements. Simple overlapping of a few pieces shows fine and delicate lines that juxtapose with the elaborate textures in black and white work. Its compositions and each scattering component are also well balanced as well which is much like movie film. She relays the emotions entwined in the acts of contemplation and isolation in her work as if putting the puzzle together.

Anese Eun Cho shows her new drawings that are guided by both internal and external spaces. The way she interprets the forms of her work is connected to spiritual, emotional, and social ones and the artwork is a kind of dialogue between what is related to the intimate and personal experience, but also a metaphor of reality stretched out to the amazing world we live in. The partially colored doors in yellow, green, orange from the whole canvas, offset by the dark sketches of charcoal around them.

Jina Chung puts her genuine feeling by using markings of Korean letters to create lines. Using these lines, which are created by the letters, create a delivery of a bigger picture. Chung shows individual elements and fragmented words in general through her work that represents inevitable and contradictory inner conflict, which may reflect viewer’s experience, and it has to be interpreted allegorically.

Seungman Park mostly uses steel as the medium by dealing with volatile world and social issues as a subject matter. For Park these marvelous works also represent the relationship between nature and human beings, and this is further underlined in his works both visibly and eclipsed. Thus, the sculptures may be seen as sophisticated angles, or as a repetition of the same angle; in different positions, simultaneously presented from different points of view.
