Kent Peterson, an artist with a lifelong interest in geology, has always been fascinated by the nature of things, and specifically how what we see is affected by that which we don’t.
A new series of work on paper I call ‘Mineral Flows’ (consisting of finely ground mineral components or pigment) is the result of studying the effects of water erosion and runoff on numerous trips to the Badlands and desert landscapes. Runoff produces an amazing range of deposition from areas of incredible density to feathery rivulets.
The ‘Strata’ paintings (which are painted over tar) are inspired by various geologic structures and the underlying factors that affect continuous change in their surface. KP 2016
