The Department of Art and Design presents the opening of the 2015 BFA Thesis Exhibition entitled at Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs. The artists of this year’s exhibition depart from a very personal and internal position, and project themselves inquisitively outwards to the immediate and far reaching environments around them, keeping records, altering, reimagining, and making marks. For them, Imprint defines an origin as much as a process or subject, and ultimately a statement.
Imprint is leaving a mark on something, someone, or somewhere with the intention of making it last. Imprint is the biological and psychological markers left by our unique path and individual experiences. Imprint is the psychological effects we decide to wear, and the manifestation as objects that we place around ourselves. Imprint is the effect man has on our natural environment, and the reciprocated effect with which the environment responds to man. Imprint is the visible and invisible elements of our inner dialogue and social environments; the building blocks of our psyche, relationships, and personality. Imprint is the impressions that our experience of the world projects outwards. Our minds are continually transformed and changed by our experiences, and the impressions left serve as the motive for the drawings, photographs or objects we ultimately end up creating.
This exhibit is hosted and made possible through the cooperation of Dorsky Gallery Curatorial Programs (“DGCP”) in Long Island City. This is the fifth year of collaboration between St. John’s University and DGCP.
