Classics scholar, poet, visual artist, Mangan brings his considerable intelligence and erudition to all three disciplines. He is the recipient of a NYFA grant for poetry and his collection of poetry, “The Harness,” was published in 1998.
The energetic small paintings, arranged in narrative panels, progress around the gallery walls.
“The series of paintings in this show are based loosely on the war at Troy that Homer describes in The Iliad, starting with the rape/kidnap of Helen (“The Dancer”) moving through (“Zeus,” “Troy,” “The Arrows of Apollo,” and “Vessels”) and ending with the return home of the Greeks after the fall of Troy (“The Return Home”).” PM
Patrick Mangan has had solo exhibitions at OK Harris, NYC; ART 101, Brooklyn; the Marianne Desin Gallery, Chicago; and has participated in group shows at OK Harris, The Painting Center, Momenta, Storefront TenEyck, Sideshow and Sugar.
