Kentler International Drawing Space presents Kentler Celebrates 25: Advisory Board Selects. Curated by the Kentler Advisory Board, this landmark exhibition features 40 new and historic works by 25 artists representing Kentler’s distinguished 25-year exhibition history.

The Kentler Advisory Board is made up of 14 artists and curators with a wide range of expertise. They support Kentler’s mission in many ways, including reviewing and recommending artists for participation in Kentler’s exhibitions. The curatorial process for Kentler Celebrates 25 was an exciting expansion of this role. Each Advisory Board member was randomly assigned two years from 1990 to 2014. Using the History feature on Kentler’s website, they explored the more than 1000 artists who have shown in the space (in both solo and group shows), identified one artist from each assigned year, visited studios or the Kentler Flatfiles, and selected either new or period artwork according to their own curatorial purview.

The first collaborative effort of its kind, the resulting show of drawings, prints, collages and three-dimensional work on paper reflects the immense diversity and international scope of Kentler’s exhibition program spanning two and a half decades. Artists included in the exhibition are as distinct as the styles, scales and techniques of their work. Their geographic locations - from Red Hook, to Iowa, to Argentina and Germany - underscore Kentler’s dual presence as a neighborhood resource and international art venue. Above all, the organization’s longstanding commitment to drawing and the medium’s many innovations shines through in this visual celebration of Kentler’s ongoing vision, mission and legacy.
