This event has ended.

Trendsetting contemporary artist and tastemaker Lawrence “Naturel” Atoigue will unveil an entirely new body of work: Some Magazines Under The (Mattress) or S.M.U.T. with acclaimed gallerist Joseph Gross in New York City’s Chelsea district. Returning with his first solo exhibition since his sold-out Scope Art Basel Miami debut, Naturel has created a cohesive collection with S.M.U.T. that is sure to turn heads. With nearly 50 new mixed media paintings, S.M.U.T. pays homage to classic gentleman’s magazine covers with visual notes from the masters of pop art. These new works recall childhood dreams and seductive centerfolds with a clean cut veneer of sophistication through Naturel’s signature blend of cubism and surrealism. As the new contemporary movement continues to evolve into a cross platform world of illustration, fine art and public murals, Naturel sits at the center of this movement, his unique style mixing digital techniques with traditional craftsmanship to build a timeless works that blur the lines of what traditional art is today. “Naturel’s work is progressive and his career is exploding. We’re anticipating his collectors, fans and art enthusiasts to pack the show in anticipation of this new body of work,” gallerist Joseph Gross said. The first exhibition in Gross’ new street level Chelsea location, S.M.U.T will be presented in partnership with Detroit’s Inner State Gallery & 1xRUN an international publisher of fine art editions.
