This event has ended.

Axelle’s Winter Collective currently features works by Philippe Herman Dequesne, Fabienne Delacroix, François Anton, Beth Carter, Quentin Garel and introduces the work of a new artist, Lucy MacGillis, to the gallery.

Our newest contemporary figurative painter Lucy MacGillis (b. 1977) grew up in the Berkshires in Massachusetts. She graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and afterwards studied at the former International School of Art in Italy. In 2000, she received a post-graduate grant to paint in Italy and decided to stay; she has lived there ever since. She currently lives and works in Umbria with her son. When she is not working on her own art, she teaches painting workshops in the US and in Italy. Since MacGillis’ first exhibition in Italy in 1999, her work has been consistently shown across the US and Europe. Her paintings are represented in private and corporate collections internationally. We currently have a collective of Italian landscapes and still-lifes from the painter.

MacGillis shares the top floor of the gallery with the works of Belgian painter Philippe Herman Dequesne. His luminous paintings use thick layers of paint, subdued color palettes and sensitive attention to detail. His works lack the noise of human intervention and thus become quiet and calm little worlds; the gentle lighting and carefully articulated forms come together to create figurative scenes that verge on abstraction.

In the viewing room, we have a small collection of new works from Fabienne Delacroix, French naïf artist and daughter of Michel Delacroix. Among her new works are a charming series of gouache on paper Parisian scenes.

Downstairs, we have mixed media work by French artist François Anton. Anton’s recent debut solo exhibition at Axelle, LE VOYAGEUR IMMOBILE, was met with great success. We have a selection of oil and pastel pieces with collage as well as several smaller drawings currently on view.

Bronze sculptures by Beth Carter and Quentin Garel are also in the gallery.
