Atlantic Gallery presents an exhibition of photographs by Glenn Lieberman.

Broadway depicts the diverse assortment of people and pursuits one may encounter on Manhattan’s longest thoroughfare.
The exhibition consists of a series of black and white photographs that tell a story of the variety of people who populate Broadway: those who live or work on Broadway, and those who come from the greater New York City area or beyond - each coming for some of the many gifts the street has to offer.

Lieberman’s photographs are digitally generated. Shot in color, most images are transformed into black and white and printed on a variety of papers selected, by texture and the degree of warmth of tone, to match the content of the image. In selecting what he considers to be worthy content, Lieberman is interested in just about anything. But usually, he looks for some scene or predicament that tells a story. For Lieberman the narrative, no matter how outwardly inconsequential, holds fascination or importance as a function of its success in revealing something cogent about human life. The idea is, of course, not remarkable. But it is for him at the center of what makes a photographic image exciting and meaningful.

Glenn Lieberman began adult life as a composer and, at about the same time, purchased a first camera. Since, he has written “classical” music receiving a number of honors, among them grants and awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, Martha Baird Rockefeller Fund, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. In more recent years, however, his love of photography has produced a shift in concentration, and a consistent record of photo exhibition.
