“From the Archive” is a solo exhibition of iconic fashion photographer Gosta Peterson’s selected groundbreaking black and white and color photographs from 1960 -1980. Included in this exhibit is Peterson’s renowned New York Times spread of Twiggy (first photo taken of Twiggy in America) and historic New York Times “Fashion of the Times” cover featuring Naomi Sims (the first African American to grace the cover of an American magazine).

“From the Archive” includes famous as well as never seen before works from Harper’s Bazaar, Elle, Mademoiselle, Cosmopolitan, L’Officiel, Look, Henri Bendel, Esquire, and GQ. Peterson was born in Sweden in 1923. He arrived in New York City in 1948 and worked as an illustrator for Lord & Taylor. He was given a camera as a as a gift and taught himself photography. Peterson began shooting for Mademoiselle in 1958 and continued to work for them as well as other publications.

From 1965 - 1977 Peterson consistently worked for the New York Times Fashion Magazine. Peterson’s works have been exhibited as well as collected by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Moderna Museet, Stockholm (solo exhibition) Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, Detroit Museum of Art, Michigan; Worcester Art Museum, Mass; Museum of the City of New York, New York; and the American-Scandinavian Foundation, New York.
