Bortolami presents the exhibition Twist, comprising three recent paintings by Jason Galbut. Galbut’s works are structured around the coexistence of various formal and conceptual procedures. Extravagant domains are built up with dense paint, oscillating between physical texture and optical pattern. Monochromatic fields demarcate sensible zones, which struggle for visibility against one other. Found objects lie dormant under thickening paint, concealing fragments of texts and images. The logic is more Darwinian than anything: painting as an arena in which to be seen and multiply.

Jason Galbut was born in Miami, FL, in 1978. He studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, London, UK and currently lives and works in Miami. Galbut’s work has been exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami and at Formalist Sidewalk Poetry Club, also in Miami. This exhibition — the first time that Galbut’s paintings have been seen in New York – has been organized by Formalist Sidewalk Poetry Club (http://formalistsidewalkpoetryclub.com).
