This event has ended.

Tracy Williams, Ltd. presents Simryn Gill’s Floating, three accounts, in her fifth solo exhibition with the gallery. A grouping of recent and new works, this exhibition continues the artist’s search for structure and method within her immediate surroundings. The presentation elevates or perhaps floats quotidian objects and organic materials through varied mediums, including leaves, stones collected from the ocean, and potato prints. Reflected throughout these three accounts, a generous patterning of quadrate and circular shapes are constant.
As you enter the gallery, pressed square cut leaves from a commonly found tree in the vicinity of the artist’s home, are pinned in a geometric lattice onto the wall. In the main space, stones Gill collected from one of the few remaining urban beaches in the town of Port Dickson become a surprising consortium of familiars and strangers, with a color spectrum ranging from white quart crystal to a metallic black.
Alongside is a grid of potato prints that were produced during the artists’ residency at Espace Louis Vuitton Munich, 2014-2015. Let them eat potatoes employs approximately forty varieties of potatoes gathered from local super and street markets around Munich. Gill trialled twelve types of Louis Vuitton writing inks, further impressing the potatoes onto two kinds of German paper.

These are studies in a way, considering the form and texture of this crop on different paper qualities through a vivid palette of hues.
Thereby truly understanding the value inherent in things, the artists’ practice can be described as a cataloguing of superfluous matter or an investigation of deserted remains in her immediate environment.

Gill was born in Singapore and presently lives between Port Dickson, Malaysia and Sydney, Australia. Her work has been shown in several solo and group exhibitions, most recently at Museum De Lakenhal, Leiden, The Netherlands (2015); Jhaveri Contemporary, Mumbai, India (2015); M+, West Kowloon, Hong Kong (2015); Centre for Contemporary Art (CCA), Singapore (2015); Espace Louis Vuitton München, Germany (2014-2015); The Solomon R.
