poster for Shigeru Nakanishi “Destruction and Rebirth”

This event has ended.

I, as a Japanese architect and painter, have been expressing amazing landscapes in the world from the eyes of an artist. Because I am convinced that it is vital for human life to appeal the importance of beautiful urban landscapes. On the other hand, I have been drawning cities destroyed by wars and natural disasters. These come from my belief that staring at the follies of human kinds and wishing peace and coexistence are both important for mankind. My objects are both positive and negative heritage of humankinds. To appeal to mankinds future direction, I have held exhibitions under the title of “Destruction and Rebirth” at over 12 major cities in Japan since 2002. We must stop religious, ethnic conflicts and wars between nations. Also, nuclear weapons must immediately be eliminated from the Earth. Seeing the wastefulness of the urban life and cherishing the traditional landscapes, I wish peace and humanism for the permanence of mankinds. With this perspective, I want to play a role in the field of arts and culture.
