Able Fine Art NY Gallery presents A Dream World a solo exhibition of the work of Korean artist Buok Seo. Buok Seo is an accomplished, highly trained painter whose work has been widely exhibited in Korea, China and Japan as well as across Europe and the United States. This is her first solo exhibition at Able Fine Art NY Gallery.
Seo’s abstractions blend geometry and diffusion. Line and form are constant and controlled, but they melt into gentle fields of color. They are distinctly atmospheric, but without evoking any landscape. In her series Fantasy and Illusion, both of which will be on display at Able Fine Art, through subtle gesture, delicate brushwork and palettes of tone that recall the early buds of spring or the darkening sky of dusk, Buok Seo brings nature into all of her works, but never reproduces objects in nature. Rather she creates the sensation of being in nature when the viewer enters the realm of her canvases. They are truly both examples of fantasy and illusion, as the only reference to reality is in the memory or the heart of the viewer.
With triangles or teardrops floating on a diffuse bed of soft green, lavender or blue, Buok Seo’s abstractions feel like topographical maps to a state of mind. They are calming and visually refreshing. Recalling the spirit of Chagall in their ability to uplift and transport, Buok Seo’s paintings offer a place of refuge.
