This event has ended.

P339 present I Know It When I See It, a multi-media installation by New York based artist Johee Kim.

Nothing stays the same; everything changes and evolves under given conditions. Necessarily, everything is connected and interacts with its surroundings, influencing and being influenced. The human mind and emotions follow the same universal laws. In I Know It When I See It, Johee Kim draws on her observations of the relationships between different states of being. She experiments with the moments when perspectives shift, and hones in on the hidden layers of meaning and their emotional implications. She seeks to examine insensibility - the feeling of absence or detachment that humans experience as a result of simply being and communicating.

The exhibition features 6 photograph portraits encased in translucent glass, videos projected and displayed on a monitor, and several text works submerged in water, encased in plexiglass boxes.

Johee Kim is a visual artist from Seoul, Korea, currently based in New York City. She received a BFA degree in Sculpture from Hongik University in Seoul, and an MFA in Sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Kim has had residencies at Gowanus Studio Space and the Bronx Museum of the Arts in New York City, and has exhibited work at Cheim & Read, NY; Gallery Onetwentyeight, NY; Project FAIR, NY; and the Korean Cultural Center, CA. Her work has appeared in Art News, Art Price, and The Korea Times. I Know It When I See It is Kim’s first solo show.
