In the project area, Stuart Lorimer will exhibit a new body of paintings that explore image, action, and revision. He builds layer by layer - one move, then another. Some are driven by a narrative impulse, and others from intuition, letting color and gesture direct the process. Through this painting process, images converge, lifted from drawings, photographs, or film stills. Often, repeated motifs pass between paintings like a talisman or charm. He removes images from their context for his own exploration, in order to create a language of abstraction that includes figuration- a process of recontextualization and revision that is the framework of his practice.
Stuart Lorimer (b. 1985, Glasgow, Scotland) lives in Brooklyn, New York. He has exhibited his work at CANADA and The Royal Scottish Academy.
