This event has ended.

Annette Davidek’s luminous, colorful paintings elicit a controlled yet lively energy. Her invented floating forms are often derived from organic motifs— roots, branches, coral, and algae—as well as from 19th Century technological illustrations. Her keen sense of color pushes the palette in directions and combinations outside of nature where vibrant hues sit alongside soft pastels, and nearly fluorescent pigment cause elements to pop out.

Susan Chrysler White’s recent paintings are constructed by accumulating layers of acrylic and enamel paint on transparent glassine paper. She then cuts and tear these laminations of glassine and collages them on canvas. This painting process embraces an element of chance and questions the traditions of painting itself. They are executed by pouring and pressing without brushes, yet appear at first glance to be mechanically generated. Some paintings have a dense, drawn, almost woven element that recalls both crocheted materials and a diagrammatic metaphysical drawing, while others have a linear striped motif that becomes an animated matrix or scaffolding.

Joan Bankemper’s ceramic vessels grow out of her 20-year commitment to creating urban gardens with the help of surrounding communities. Her vases incorporate flowers, birds, bees, all the symbols of the garden and the creatures that help pollinate the flowers. Working as a collagist, Bankemper creates large-scale vessels, beginning with a glass vase at the core. Casting from a collection of 1,500 molds, she creates myriad shapes and sizes, combining historical ceramics, contemporary china and hand-built objects. Bankemper creates an original ceramic tableau where at every angle there is something rich, textured and layered for the eye to behold.
