This event has ended.

Martinez’s approach and technique is heavily influenced by the aesthetics of traditional Mexican arts and crafts, which inspired him from an early age growing up in the state of Veracruz. His work also emits a global perspective on traditional folk arts and the shared references to animals and nature that can be found around the world, from centuries past. This amalgamation of influences and motifs is, in part, a study in the consistencies of visual culture that begins with ancient artisans and craftspeople and extends to the contemporary artists of today—a timeline Martinez sees as one continuous legacy.

Ultimately, Flores en Fuego is a reminder to its audience of the wealth of similarities human beings share, a meditation on the visual touchstones that unite us all and inform a universal pursuit for beauty and community across history.

Well known locally in the Bay Area’s thriving mural scene, Martinez is garnering an international reputation for his style that merges traditional muralism, global folk motifs and contemporary street art. This will be Martinez’s first solo exhibition in New York City.
