Walter Wickiser Gallery presents the French painter Magali Leonard’s exhibition Worlds of Transparency and Flux. This will be Leonard’s third exhibition with the gallery and feature nine new paintings with a catalog essay by noted critic and curator Dominique Nahas.
Nahas says of Leonard’s new series Openings “The artist builds upon the advances of pioneer American color field painter Helen Frankenthaler, as well as those of Morris Louis and Clyfford Still, to create supercharged color-soaked and color streaked surfaces that compete for the eye’s attention in an all-over manner.” The gestures and pours of the paintings flow in a continuous movement that the artist gives of herself only once, similarly to calligraphy. She traces trajectories of a life or a cosmos that the viewer just so happens to capture at that moment in time.
Leonard has exhibited extensively throughout her native France, Canada, China, Europe, and Japan.
