This event has ended.

Gallery Molly Krom presents Bernd Kirschner’s solo exhibition Relocation. This exhibition presents recent paintings by this Berlin based artist. The works selected for his first solo exhibit in New York are about a personal aesthetic journey, a “relocation”, from the world of floating landscapes and figures into a new territory, one that is populated by color and light more than it is by the presence of an object. This development, however, can not be described as a simple crossing into the realm of abstraction. In most, if not all of the new canvases, the shadow of a landscape, a figure, an object seems to be just under a luminous surface. Christoph Tannert, in his essay “The Air Smells Round and Soft”, described Kirschner’s recent work as a “sensory adventure of color, sound and rhythm.” One might also add light, which his canvases seem to store, to that list of synesthetic experiences.

Bernd Kirschner (b. 1980, Memmingen, Germany) studied art at the State Art Academy in Stuttgart. He is represented by Galerie Michael Schultz in Berlin. His work has been exhibited widely throughout Europe and Asia and the list of his most recent exhibitions include Tales from Nowhere, Galerie Michael Schultz (2014), Wenn die Flusse aufwarts fliessen, Kunsthalle Dresden, Dresden (2014), Synergien, Galerie Kampl, Munchen (2013), Bosporus Brake, Istanbul, Turkey (2013), and o.T. World Art Museum, Beijing, China (2013).
