ArtNowNY presents Law Journals, a solo exhibition of new works by American artist David Ortiz. Joseph Gross Gallery will host an opening reception on February 12, 2015 from 6:00 to 9:00 PM in Chelsea at 548 W 28th Street, suite 232.
During the past 8-9 months David Ortiz has created a new body of work entirely dedicated to the fine line that exists between drawing and painting. Besides the countless references to Art History (Matisse, Keith Haring, Picasso), these pieces are strictly interwoven with an irrepressible desire to challenge authority and overtake the limits of formal academic beauty.
“The more you know, the more you can bend the rules”, says the artist. Ortiz managed to elaborate his own language by taking inspiration from the most revolutionary artists and movements and transforming everything he knows into a renovated, alternate version of reality. His new drawings and paintings represent an attempt to rewrite the words contained in each page of the books that he decided to work on with a further layer of knowledge and color.
