Lower East Side Printshop presents the EDITIONS ‘15.. The exhibition features new works by recipients of the Printshop’s prestigious Publishing Residencies: Derrick Adams, Sebastiaan Bremer, Simon Evans, and Ryan McGinness. The Publishing Residency program invites artists to collaborate with printers on ambitious new projects over a period of one year, fully sponsored by the Printshop. Awarded residents are selected through an extensive nomination process.

As described by the essayist Sarah Kirk Hanley, “The artists invited for publishing residencies this year brought fresh thinking to the table. Sebastiaan Bremer and Ryan McGinness, who have previously worked at LESP, used the opportunity to expand on ideas they have explored in prior bodies of work. Each generated brilliantly playful effects: Bremer’s floating orbs advance and recede over idyllic family photos; while McGinness’s female forms overlap in riotous fashion, even spilling out of the picture plane. Derrick Adams and Simon Evans, who are new to the printmaking process, thought carefully about how to approach the medium in a way that made sense for their established practices. Their solutions offer novel approaches to printmaking: Adams transformed the commercial playing card; while Evans printed in relief from a commonplace yoga mat. Whether seasoned in the art of printmaking or exploring its possibilities, each artist rose to the challenge and produced work that optimizes the medium’s potential.”
