poster for Javier D’Ambrosio Exhibition

This event has ended.

The Gabarron Foundation for the Arts is pleased to present Uruguayan artist Javier D’Ambrosio’s solo exhibition.
All are welcome to attend so long as they RSVP to rsvp@gabarron.org prior to the opening date.

Javier D’Ambrosio’s work is related to his religious practice, which is native to the African continent. His lush paintings and majestic sculptures are both cultural objects and healing artifacts. The experience, of which he makes us part, goes beyond the world of art, expanding to reach the dimension of the ritual. The pieces chosen for this exhibition are a select sample of the thematic richness of the artist’s work. With this particular selection, master D’Ambrosio invites us to coexist between the human and the divine. His work points out the way back to the earth’s womb; the mother who gave birth to all of us and houses the wisdom of our ancestors.

Javier D’Ambrosio was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, where he studied art at Clever Lara Art School. Later, he completed studies in Architecture and Interior Design at Uppsala University in Sweden and at Luis Canmitser Art School in Baldotavo, Italy. From 1988 to date, master D’Ambrosio has exhibited in major galleries in cities in Europe, America, Asia and Latin America, including Raphael Doueb’s gallery, Le Monde de L’Art, Paris (France); Pellini gallery, Milan (Italy); Jorgensen gallery, Copenhagen (Denmark); Einar Melander gallery, Oslo (Norway); Inclusion Gallery Chicago, Illinois; and Tibetan & Himalayan Arts gallery, Kathmandu (Nepal) among others. His work is known worldwide for its high content of elements that evoke earth rites. All sculptures and installations contain elements of ossuaries (bones, feathers, animal wings, etc.) These types of pieces were collected in different rural or desert landscapes in different geographies of the world.

The Gabarron Foundation was established in Spain in 1992, inspired by the ideals of its founder, Spanish artist Cristóbal Gabarrón: to educate and teach while defending, supporting and disseminating culture in its most varied forms. The Foundation’s growth over the past 22 years has been guided by its mission to “raise awareness through the arts”. The Gabarron Foundation organizes and presents annual programs through its centers and museums in Spain and the United States. The Carriage House has advanced as a platform for the cross-fertilization of Hispanic and Latin American cultures in the United States.
