This event has ended.

Achim Moeller announces “Lyonel Feininger: The Early Years, 1890-1906. Drawings from a Private Collection” on view through 26 June. The exhibition features never-before-seen drawings from a seminal moment in Lyonel Feininger’s career.

As a young artist Lyonel Feininger (1871-1956) traveled extensively, from the boulevards of Paris to the fishing villages of the Baltic Sea. Never without pencil and paper, he captured what he saw and meticulously recorded it—often noting the place and date—for posterity. The training Feininger acquired—at the Royal Academy of Art in Berlin and the Académie Colarossi and Académie Delecluse in Paris—and the working method he adopted during these years would prove critical for his later achievements as a painter.

Highlights include (Grindstone), from 1891 and Light Study, Dining Room, Potsdamer Strasse 35, from 1892, a fine early chiaroscuro drawing of the artist’s Berlin apartment.
