This event has ended.

Clearing Operations and Carelessness is a new series of riot paintings by Gardar Eide Einarsson employing images taken from vintage law enforcement manuals on crowd control and protest containment. There’s an overt nod here to the whitewashing of American history - the covert subplots of a nation’s narrative - but the paintings also speak to a correlation between protection and negligence. In a more painterly context, the new Gardar pictures echo elements of Christopher Wool’s redactive flower paintings and Steven Parrino’s interest in cultural subterfuge. Clearing Operations and Carelessness runs concurrently with a solo show, FREEDOM, MOTHERFUCKER. DO YOU SPEAK IT? at TEAM gallery on Wooster Street through October 25th.

Gardar Eide Einarsson was born in 1976 in Oslo and currently lives in Tokyo. He received his education from the National Academy of Fine Art, Bergen; State Academy of Fine arts - Städelschule - Frankfurt and the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program in New York City.

Solo shows include ARoS Aarhus Art Museum; Bergen Art Hall; Frankfurter Kunstverein; Museum of Modern Art, Fort Worth; Astrup Fearnley Museum of Modern Art; Reykjavik Art Museum; Centre d’Art Contemporain, Geneva; Bonniers Konsthall, Stockholm and Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel.
