This event has ended.

In the realm of systems, glitches indicate a rupture or change of state. They demonstrate the buggy nature of a given order, tearing apart the superficial layer of logic that is taken for granted, exposing its unstable core. In our technology-driven society, a powerful glitch has the potential to uproot our most basic patterns and ruin our way of life.

Because of this, yes, we should fear the Glitch.

Nevertheless, a glitch allows us to recognize the system through its failure. Letting go of details clarifies the big picture. In this way, a glitch can potentially trigger awareness, understanding, and perhaps an eventual solution.

On July 8, Wall Street shut down and United Airlines had to land all of its inland planes, in one generalized malfunction that some attributed to a cyber-attack. Most, though, assumed it was due to asking too much to the (outdated) computer systems used, a massive error now being openly known as “The Great Technical Glitch”. Through these occurrences, the concept of Glitch continues to enter the public domain.

In “Glitcha” members from the collective display new works in a variety of media that explore the mechanics of a system breaking down.
