“Embraced: The International Community” and “/mit ðə detə/: Source Materials Visualized” Exhibition
The Center for Book Arts
This event has ended.
The Center for Book Arts presents two summer exhibitions, marking the final chapter of its 40th Anniversary year which began in the fall of 2014. In the main gallery, Embraced: The International Community, organized by Richard Minsky, Founder, Center for Book Arts, explores the Center’s place within the international sphere of book artists. In the ancillary galleries, /mit ðə detə/: Source Materials Visualized, organized by Alexander Campos, Executive Director & Curator, Center for Book Arts, and Heidi Neilson, artist and Co-Founder of SP Weather Station, considers how book artists are making works structured from concrete data. Roundtable discussions with artists from both shows are scheduled throughout the summer.
Embraced: The International Community examines the influence the Center has had on the international book arts scene as well as the international artists who have come to the Center to study, exhibit, or teach. This is the fourth and final exhibition of the Center’s 40th anniversary year-long celebration, each of which featured and documented a particular program. Curator Richard Minsky founded the Center for Book Arts in 1974 as the first independent, non-profit institution dedicated to preserving the traditional artistic practices of bookmaking, as well as exploring and encouraging contemporary interpretations of the book as an art object.
