On May 12th 2015 Roland Auctions NY presents an important sale featuring over 100 lots of Modern and Contemporary Art and Design selected from choice collections. Notable modern artists in this sale include: Richard Estes, Yayoi Kusama, Victor Vasarely, Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, Pablo Picasso, Jesus Soto, Alexander Calder, and Salvador Dali, among others. Complimenting these modern masters is an impressive selection of contemporary artists. These emerging artists, such as Laurence Gartel, have been carefully selected based on proven merit both in terms of critical recognition and collector demand. Most recently Mr. Gartel was the official artist of the 2015 Grammy Awards.
This sale will be Roland’s first specialized Modern and Contemporary Auction, and we couldn’t be more excited to launch ourselves into this ever growing market. The goal for this inaugural sale was to present 100 lots of quality art, keep a small and boutique atmosphere, and accent primarily fine art with quality decorative arts and design. Proud to have reached this goal, the sale is comprised of 130 lots. Decorative arts and design items include: a George Nelson mid-century desk, three Picasso Madoura chargers and a Madoura plate, a Victor Vasarely chess set, a Jean Royere coffee table, an Antoni Gaudi “Calvet” chair, and a set of Paul Evans side tables, among others. Admirers of sculpture will love the Roxy Paine work, a stunning bronze by Isaac Kahn, and a mixed media construction by LA II.
The sale includes tapestries by Salvador Dali, Sonia Delaunay, and renowned textile artist Cynthia Schira.
Framed works of fine art carry the weight of the sale, and there are options to suit every taste. Street art is well represented with a number of works by famed artist LA II, as well as emerging artists Victor Ving and Michael Pearson. A number of signed lithographs, including works by Man Ray, Larry Rivers, and Salvador Dali (two complete folios) are also available. Photography will be prevalent, with impressive works from emerging artist Michael Colavito.
Excitement is building and exuding from Rolands. We expect to have a full house during exhibition to kick off our Modern and Contemporary Department, and we welcome one and all to come be part of the fun. Don’t miss the soiree Thursday night, complete with drinks and hors d’oeurves, where you will have a chance to talk directly to artists, friends, and peers.
