This event has ended.

Leonard Tourné Gallery present “DEW,” an exhibition of new oil paintings by Colombian artist Juan Bernal.

Bernal is perhaps best known for his portrayals of nature which, as he explained in an interview with The New York Times, he sees as a means of inserting peace into a world of chaos and violence.

His latest series demonstrates the evolution of Bernal’s work from traditional landscape paintings to a style that blends hyperrealism with magical realism. Bernal is highly influenced by the Old Masters; his dramatic use of contrast between light and shadow is particularly reminiscent of Caravaggio’s chiaroscuro technique.

A native of Colombia, Bernal relocated to New York after he received his degree in architecture from Javeriana University in Bogotá, Colombia. His works belong to a number of museum collections in the United States and Colombia, including the Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC), the Corcoran Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), the Latin American Art Museum (Miami, FL) and Museo de Arte Contemporaneo (Bogotá, Colombia). His paintings have appeared in more than 50 group exhibitions and 25 solo shows in New York, NY, Miami, FL, Washington, DC, China, France, Japan, Mexico, Ecuador, Spain and Colombia.

Among other special projects, Bernal has completed works commissioned by the Governor’s Mansion in Bogotá, Trump Tower and the Colombian Consulate in New York and the Commission on the Arts and Humanities in Washington, DC.
