This event has ended.

Entitled “Chuck Connelly: Spirit of Vision,” the exhibition will include a selection of Connelly’s work from the past decade on a range of subject matter, including portraits, landscapes, nudes and allegorical pieces. Widely acknowledged as one of America’s foremost expressionists, Connelly began his career in the 1980s, living and painting in the East Village, only blocks from the Dorian Grey Gallery. He has continued to work in Philadelphia and recently concluded a one-man exhibition at the Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh.

“Connelly’s psychological honesty and the emotional urgency of his work are in full force in this show,” said Molua Muldown of Dorian Grey Gallery. “The exhibition showcases his distinct narrative perspective, with its deeply human imagery, in a setting that evokes the intimacy of a studio visit.”

In a recent exhibition essay, “Rapture Beguiled, The Art of Chuck Connelly,” noted art historian Robert C. Morgan said: “…there is rapture in these paintings. Their sophistication goes beyond ordinary language and is impossible to discern through art language. They are paintings that beguile the senses, and, in doing so, escape the fashionable trends that eventually hold forth at auctions. Connelly is a true original—an artist who can only paint what he knows through the honesty of what he perceives and imagines. There are interior symbolic values that emerge in the process of how he organizes his paintings. He is a raconteur artist, telling us, showing us, what he himself would like to believe.”
