In keeping with Spinoza’s Ethics, the idea that all things partake of one substance, the Baroque Power Group presents Pantheon, an exhibition of works by Hovey Brock, Quinn Dukes, Alexandra Hammond and JD Raenbeau. Artists of the BPG affirm nature, community and the gift of consciousness using humor and reverence.
Pantheon places multiple disciplines in conversation including video projections, collaborative installations, durational performance, soft sculpture and painting.

Brock investigates the genealogy of Western thought through abstract painting and video. The “painterly” screen refers metaphorically to Ancient Greek philosophy’s discovery of the mind as a field of study. Dukes’ performances generate rituals that seek healing from the wounds of a cyclical, confession-based culture. Raenbeau creates hybrid characters and alter egos, products of repressed desires and fantasies, to tell stories of his past, present, and future. Challenging cartesian binaries, Raenbeau celebrates abjection as a tool to connect selves and others. Hammond’s installation lures viewers into participation in the represented landscape of Walliecamp. Her Goldlugger soft sculptures employ tropes of the American West to investigate neoliberal ideology.
