This event has ended.

REACTIVATOR is a group survey of the past and current building residence at The Active Space and their affiliates. For over 7 years, this building has welcomed artists from all stages of their creative pursuits.

Common belief holds that an artist’s role is to interpret their surroundings; these artists navigate the exterior landscape of their studio building, taking in and absorbing the environment that is then reflected in the strategies utilized in their process. There are works that envelop the entire 1,600 sqft space, such as “1989” by collaborative group Vydavy, to works that require a close eye for hidden detail found in “Cups“ by Rachel Grobstein. Not shy of scale, many of the artists create work that stretches the limits of their studio walls. Ben Prichard, Theresa Daddezio, Sebastian Vallejo, Matt Miller, Joe Bochynski, and Ashley Zelinskie test these architectural limits through the physicality and material play demonstrated in their objects. Regardless of size, these objects possess intricacies that are devised through this intimate spatial relationship.

Although these artists often create in isolation, it is always within context of and in conversation with their community in this building. REACTIVATOR continues the active engagement of these artists between each other and the Bushwick landscape.
